What is the Modern Education System Missing?
Does our education system fail to keep up with the worlds growing need to develop soft skills?

What is our Education System Missing?
How often growing up as kids did we question the significance of certain assignments or subjects in school? How often do you find yourself now coming to the realization of how much you weren't able to learn about the world from school? More importantly, what skills did you gain from your education that are directly beneficial to what you do professionally today?
In recent studies of higher education and university teaching practices, the demand of people possessing a strong development of soft skills was identified. Soft skills are secondary skill sets that contribute to a person's ability to gain employment. Examples of these are networking, teamwork, socialization, and assertiveness.
However, claims are made that our current system of education has yet to catch up to this demand in our globalized society. People today have thousands of jobs at their fingertips with online job search boards like LinkedIn, and Indeed. However, to succeed in a job market such as this, the youth today should focus on developing soft skills, skills that the current educational system does not incorporate as significantly as it should be. How impactful is the environment you work on your mindset? A study conducted by Diane Edmondson and Lucy Matthews (2022) evaluated 361 salespeople to determine that work environments who succeeded in having employee engagement have shown to be more profitable, and more productive.
The world we live in today has created a dynamic working situation, with large percentages of companies utilizing remote or hybrid work. This creates a new challenge for business professionals who want to better encourage employee engagement.
The study found that employees who exemplified grit, where the ones who lead to expressing more emotional and physical engagement. Grit was found to stem from a companies ability to utilize autonomy and skill discretion to cultivate creativity. Autonomy is referred to as an employees freedom to make choices and act freely, while skill discretion highlights the need for job specific skills.
In summary, employees who feel like they have the freedom to make their own choices, mixed with a sense of value for what they bring to the metaphorical table leads to better emotional and physical engagement in the workplace.

A recent study conducted by Georgetown University Medical Center found that mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) practices can be just has successful as antidepressant drugs.
MBSR is a form of meditation therapy used to treat people with anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders.
MBSR practices can help families who struggle financially getting access to certain medications or may be limited due to side effects with the drugs themselves. Read more below.
